Ed LeCara, DC, PhD, ATC, CSCS
With more than twenty years of experience in manual therapy, strength and conditioning, and sports medicine, Dr. Le Cara has developed a knack for helping patients heal injuries through active rehabilitation programs. Inspired by his training as an Army combat medic, he learned how to modify rather than stop activity to accomplish the mission. He took that experience and applied it as a personal trainer for 24 Hour Fitness while doing his undergraduate work in Exercise Science at UC Davis. He then worked as a strength and conditioning specialist. He learned the importance of applying safe progressions and work around individual strengths, limitations, and needs while reducing injury risk and increasing performance. After tearing three ligaments in his knee wrestling at the Division I level, he applied his experience as a medic and strength coach toward his own rehabilitation. With a new sense of urgency, sports medicine and rehabilitation is where he decided to direct his career.
In 2000, he opened SportsPlus: Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation in Pleasanton, CA, where he currently practices. With a desire to contribute to the scientific literature and be a leader in the sports medicine world, he started a PhD program in athletic training at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, UT, in 2007 and graduated in 2012. His research of the morphology and function of the lumbar multifidus muscle is currently under review and is expected to be published in 2013. Since 2010, he has been a science and medical consultant for 24 Hour Fitness corporate offices in San Ramon, CA. He helps 24 Hour educate and writes programs for their fitness division, consults with human resources on employee benefits and wellness programs, and provides onsite medical treatment at their corporate office. Le Cara is board certified in both sports medicine and rehabilitation and treats patients at the Veterans Administration Northern California Health Care System in Martinez, CA.
Now a sought-after lecturer, he instructs other sports medicine providers on human movement assessment and corrective exercise. He is a master instructor of TRX sports medicine suspension training and an instructor for Rock Tape. He lives with his wife, Anela (a certified athletic trainer and massage therapist), and dog Brody in Pleasanton, CA.
